Sony has unveiled a prototype robot that cautiously performed microsurgery on a corn kernel. Although still in the research and development phase and not yet available for commercial use, the robot holds promise for assisting medical professionals—amid ongoing healthcare staff shortages.
A recently released video shows the robot performing precise microsurgery. It is equipped with 1.3-type 4K OLED microdisplays that provide high-quality images, helping surgeons monitor whether surgical instruments are positioned correctly.
This robotic assistant is designed to support surgeons in operating on extremely small tissues, nerves, and veins. Its compact design includes a miniature automatic instrument exchange system to reduce interruptions and delays during procedures. The robot’s precision is further enhanced by a lightweight, highly sensitive control device that mirrors the delicate movements of human fingertips.
