Kathmandu—Following the directive from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the chairman of the Medical Education Commission, a decision has been made to provide residential doctors with a monthly allowance of 48,000. The Prime Minister has instructed the Commission to ensure the implementation of this decision and has also directed private medical colleges to issue a circular to implement it.
On Wednesday, Deputy Chairman Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, along with former Vice Chancellor of Karnali Health Science Institute Dr. Mangal Rawal, met with Prime Minister Oli. During the meeting, they emphasized the need to enforce the decision that had been made earlier. Dr. Rawal shared that his visit was aimed for the implementation of the 48,000 allowance for residential doctors at any cost. He mentioned, “The Prime Minister is clear about this decision. He assured that this decision would be enforced.”
Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, the Deputy Chairman of the Commission, confirmed that the circular had been issued again in line with the Prime Minister’s directive. He said, “We have issued the circular today to ensure the decision is implemented, just as we did previously.”
Following the delay in implementation, resident doctors have been protesting. Private medical colleges have expressed their inability to provide the 48,000 allowance and are demanding an increase in the number of MBBS seats.
Prime Minister Oli also mentioned that the task force will study and submit a report on the fee implementation and increasing the number of MBBS seats. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for the 15th of this month.
