Medical Entrepreneur Durga Prasai Being Brought to Kathmandu After Arrest

Kathmandu—Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who was recently arrested, is being brought to Kathmandu. He was taken into custody in Assam, India, and handed over to a special team of Nepal Police at the Kakarbhitta border point.

According to police sources, Prasai was brought to Jhapa this morning, and preparations are underway to bring him to Kathmandu later today.

He has been accused of inciting violence during a royalist protest held on March 28 at Tinkune, Kathmandu. The protest turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two people, including a journalist. Several houses and vehicles were vandalized and set on fire, and protesters were reported to have stolen items from the Bhatbhateni supermarket in Koteshwor.

Prasai is alleged to have forcefully broken through police barricades and incited the crowd during the protest. He is considered the key commander behind the violent royalist movement at Tinkune. He fled the scene shortly after the violence escalated.
