Foreign Aid Shrinking, Likely to Decline Further: Foreign Minister Rana

Kathmandu — Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has expressed concern over the steady decline in international aid and warned that geopolitical dynamics may lead to further reductions in the coming years.

Speaking at the 59th Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on the occasion of Industry and Commerce Day, Dr. Rana emphasized that Nepal must now focus on achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) with limited external support. Nepal must aim for maximum development and graduate to the status of a developing nation. We have to fulfill our aspirations for rapid economic growth and development. Now foreign loan subsidies will come less than before,” said Foreign Minister Rana.

Highlighting the role of the private sector in driving economic progress, Dr. Rana praised FNCCI’s contribution to Nepal’s economy. “All Nepalese aspire to see economic development and prosperity. Such aspirations can only be realized through the active engagement and participation of the private sector,” she added.

She also underscored the need to increase capital expenditure and reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing issues in mobilizing public resources. According to her, many of these issues stemmed from political instability, which the government is now determined to resolve.

As the Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of achieving sustainable development goals, the health sector should also focus on strengthening the health system. Sustainable health financing, improved health infrastructure, and innovative partnerships will be key to ensuring that progress in public health is not compromised.
