Severe Air Pollution in Kathmandu, While Most of Nepal Experiences Clear Weather

Kathmandu—The country is experiencing a partial influence of western and local winds. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Weather Forecast Division, the morning weather remains partly cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country has mostly clear skies.

On Wednesday, light snowfall is expected in one or two places in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces. Additionally, temperatures across most parts of the country are expected to rise. Despite being in the pre-monsoon season, the chances of rainfall remain low, leading to increased dryness, fire hazards, and worsening air pollution, as per the department.

The department has warned that air pollution could impact public health, daily life, agriculture, roads, and air transport. It has urged people to take necessary precautions to minimize its effects.

Kathmandu Valley currently ranks second in the world for air pollution levels. Yesterday, it held the top position but has now dropped to second place. Today, New Delhi, India, holds the top spot. Experts have advised residents to take necessary precautions, as the air quality in Kathmandu remains extremely harmful to health.
