Kathmandu— The Government of Nepal is sending a team from the Nepali Army along with essential relief and medical supplies to assist the earthquake-affected people in Myanmar.
A Cabinet meeting held on Monday night decided to dispatch a Nepal Airlines aircraft carrying relief materials, medicines, and medical equipment. A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar on March 28, causing significant loss of life and property. So far, nearly 2,000 people have lost their lives, with thousands more injured.
The aircraft will transport stockpiled government resources along with medical supplies and relief materials received from the private sector. According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, the Cabinet has also decided to allocate funds from the Ministry of Finance to cover the transportation costs of the Nepal Airlines flight.
Additionally, the government has decided to deploy a medical team from the Nepali Army to Myanmar. Minister Gurung stated that the team, along with essential medical supplies, will be transported using the Army’s own aircraft.
